Urban Pistol Tactics Course
This course will focus on the defensive use of a handgun in the urban environment with heavy emphasis on maneuvering through and around common urban obstacles while engaging threats. We will fire from and around vehicles, walls and barricades, simulated objects of cover/concealment such as fire hydrants, trash receptacles, telephone poles and the like.
Much of this course will involve shooting on steel, reactionary targets. Sunglasses that are not rated for ballistic protection will not be allowed.
Prerequisites: Basic handgun course. Strong understanding of fundamentals of firearms safety.
Equipment: Handgun, three magazines, 400 rounds of ammunition, holster, magazine pouches, belt, eye and ear protections.
0800 Welcome and review of safety rules.
0830 Handgun fundamentals. This will include reloading techniques.
0930 Strong hand, weak hand only drills
1030 Discussion of cover versus concealment. Finding both or either and evaluating their effectiveness
1100 Shooting around standing barricades including strong hand/weak hand and strong hand only and weak hand only
1230 Meal break
1300 Vehicles as cover. Shooting from and around vehicles.
1530 Shooting using cover from common urban objects.
1700 Debrief and close.
